Top 9 FSA Eligible Travel Essentials

Whether you’re traveling for business, or on a well-earned family vacation, embarking on a journey doesn't have to mean leaving behind the comforts of home. With a carefully curated selection of essential items, you can ensure that your travels are not only smooth and enjoyable, but also infused with a sense of familiarity and convenience. From a therapeutic neck pillow that soothes pains from long flights to first aid essentials, these FSA eligible must-haves will become your trusty companions, helping you stay on top of your health needs and making you feel at home, no matter how far you roam.

1. Pain relievers

If you've ever woken up in a hotel with a massive headache or sprained your ankle while running, you probably know how important it is to have immediate access to something that will soothe the pain and inflammation. Pain relievers like ibuprofen, naproxen, and acetaminophen are necessities for any travel kit. These can help reduce inflammation, lower a fever or alleviate pain after an injury. Both brand-name and generic products are FSA eligible.

2. Allergy

Just because you’re on vacation it doesn’t mean that your allergies are on break, too. It’s always a good idea to pack allergy medicine in advance of any trip so you're prepared if allergy symptoms hit. Luckily, you can find some relief by using your FSA to purchase antihistamines and other allergy medications.

3. Tampons and other menstrual products

If you are a person who menstruates, you might want to bring your own menstrual products along. Your FSA funds can be used to purchase tampons, pads, panty liners, menstrual cups, period panties, and other menstrual products. Menstrual pain relievers, vaginal cream, and menstrual cup wash are also FSA eligible, and don’t require a prescription. Plan ahead and pack plenty of your favorite period products to prepare for your trip.

4. Laxatives and anti-diarrheal

Even if you don’t regularly suffer from occasional bouts of diarrhea or constipation, it’s always best to pack a little bit of prevention in your suitcase. And you’ll be happy to know that antidiarrheal medications and laxatives are FSA eligible. Items from brands like Immodium, Colace, and Dulcolax are eligible, as well as generic products.

5. First Aid Kit

It’s never a bad idea to pack a travel first-aid kit for any trip. Bandages, gauze, and antibiotic ointment are FSA eligible, and they’re great to have on hand for anything from a blister on your heel to a gash on your knee. Check on your stash of first aid supplies and make sure nothing is expired, depleted, or too old to use.

6. Incontinence supplies

Family vacations are about making memories. Business trips are about making impressions. And if you have incontinence issues, you know how important it is to have a few basic necessities on hand: underwear liners, adult diapers, leak-proof underwear, and cream to relieve irritated areas — all of which you can buy with your FSA dollars.

7. Antacids and acid reducers

Whether you’re going to client dinners or participating in a vacation cooking class, chances are that if you live with acid reflux and heartburn, you might have a flare up when you’re traveling. Luckily, you can purchase a variety of antacids and acid reducers with FSA funds to have on hand for when you travel.

8. Neck Pillow

Don't let neck pain ruin your trips — invest in a travel neck pillow for necessary support and comfort, making every trip a restful and enjoyable experience. And now you can use your FSA dollars to purchase models with therapeutic warmth or cold to help stimulate circulation and alleviate pain.

9. Pill Organizer

If you’re on daily medication, or need to take seasonal medication for allergies, you know that your prescription and necessary OTC medications are the most important items that you need to pack. And with a variety of FSA eligible pill organizers, you’ll be set for trips of any length.

9. Sun Care

Don’t get burned paying gift shop or resort drugstore prices for your sunscreen or sun aftercare products. Your favorite brands or sprays and lotions are FSA eligible and ready to pack in your suitcase.
