Erectile Dysfunction Treatment: FSA Eligibility

Erectile Dysfunction Treatment: requires a prescription to be eligible with a Flexible Spending Account (FSA)
Erectile dysfunction treatment medicines are eligible for reimbursement with a prescription with a flexible spending account (FSA), health savings account (HSA) or a health reimbursement arrangement (HRA). Erectile dysfunction treatment medicines are not eligible for reimbursement with a dependent care flexible spending account (DCFSA) or a limited-purpose flexible spending account (LPFSA).

What are erectile dysfunction treatment medicines?

There are several types of medicine available for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. Erectile dysfunction can be the result of a variety of different medical conditions related to the brain, nerves, muscles, and blood vessels. Stress and mental health concerns can exacerbate or worsen these issues, or cause erectile dysfunction separately (Urology Care Foundation).

Medicines for the treatment of erectile dysfunction include pills which increase the effect of nitric oxide which aids in obtaining an erection due to sexual stimulation. Other forms of medication include injections, urethral suppositories, testosterone hormone replacement therapies, penis pumps, penile implants, and blood vessel surgeries (Mayo Clinic).

A psychologist or counselor may also aid in treating erectile dysfunction that is a result of a psychological or mental health condition. Regardless of which treatment medicine is used, a prescription must be obtained for reimbursement eligibility under a consumer-directed savings account.

A doctor will likely recommend a specific treatment. Some erectile dysfunction treatment medicines have adverse side effects, and may not begin working immediately. Most should not be used more than once per day. Many erectile dysfunction treatment medicines are affected by other medications and supplements, and complications may result.
