What is a medical information plan?

Medical records are the long-term documentation of an individual's medical care and medical history over the course of his/her life. These records are extremely valuable for medical professionals in following trends associated with an individual's medical history, listing any allergies or other major complications that could affect a patient's scope of care and past procedures and operations the patient may have had that could inform a treatment plan moving forward.

A medical information plan refers to two possible expenses that a consumer-directed account holder may encounter when moving medical information between health professionals. First, the cost to store health information and be able to retrieve this information from a computer data bank is a qualified expense. Additionally, the cost of transferring or copying medical records for medical care is a qualified expense for consumer-directed account holders (NerdWallet).
