What is milk of magnesia?

Milk of magnesia, or magnesium hydroxide, is a medication, taken orally, that helps mainly treat constipation, but can also help treat discomfort caused by an uneven acid balance in the stomach (WebMD). 

What causes constipation?

Constipation is sometimes caused by a lack of fiber in the diet or by an excess of dairy. It can also be caused by a variety of diseases such as irritable bowel syndrome, thyroid disease, colon cancer or multiple sclerosis.

Who can’t consume milk of magnesia?

Those under 6 years old shouldn’t consume milk of magnesia, as well as those with kidney problems, magnesia-restricted diets, those taking prescription drugs or if you are nursing or pregnant.
