What is mouth wash?

Mouth wash, or mouthwash, is a dental care liquid that can be held in the mouth or shaken around in order to bring it into contact with the teeth, cheeks, gums, and tongue. Mouthwash may be analgesic, anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, or just antiseptic. Mouthwash may be used in conjunction with toothbrushing and flossing as part of a mouth healthcare routine. Mouthwash may also serve a personal use purpose in terms of temporarily providing better, more pleasant breath (American Dental Association).

Mouth wash that is purchased Over-the-Counter (OTC) as a normal personal use product is not eligible for reimbursement with any consumer-directed healthcare account. Mouthwash that is purchase Over-the-Counter (OTC) is not used to treat, alleviate or prevent a medical condition. It is considered a personal use product in nature.
