How to find out eligible FSA expenses

It's difficult to know what is and isn't FSA eligible. There are many lists out there that list every item in full detail so that you understand the nitty gritty of FSA eligibility. This is very helpful if you already have a specific item or expense in question. However, if you want to get a general look at what you're able to buy to it can be overwhelming to figure out where to start your exploration.

How do I know what my eligible FSA expenses are?

FSA Store provides a FSA Eligibility List that tries to break eligible FSA expenses down for you.First, the list is separated into two major categories: items that require do not require a doctor's prescription in RED and items that do in BLUE.

First, the list is separated into two major categories: items that require do not require a doctor's prescription in RED and items that do in BLUE.

In order to be reimbursed by an FSA, you will need a prescription for the items marked with the Blue Rx symbol. This is due to regulations on FSAs that require a prescription for any over-the-counter items containing medical ingredients, which would include Zyrtec, Tylenol or Advil, and more. Luckily, not all over-the-counter products require a prescription, so you can rest easy knowing you can use your FSA for thousands of items that do NOT require an Rx!

Still a bit confused? Learn more about the Rx requirements, and learn about our Rx Process. You can submit your prescriptions to us, which will make the process easier for you to handle your FSA, and quickly get the products you need.

Looking at the list of products that do not require a doctor's prescription does not have to be daunting. It's outlined clearly (with the two symbols) on what categories would qualify, but it's also a good idea to ask your FSA administrator (or HR) about specific expenses covered by your plan. Sometimes covered expenses vary, though everything we sell is FSA eligible.
