As we head into August, two things are true: summer is winding down, and before you know it, the kids will be back in school. Whether you’re soaking up the last days of summer or gearing up for back-to-school season, here’s some good news: your flexible spending account (FSA) can help keep your kids healthy all year long.
If you or your spouse have an FSA, you can use it to cover eligible healthcare expenses for your dependents throughout the school year, making it easier to care for their health and your budget.
Band-aids and First Aid Kits
Small mishaps at school can happen, and having band-aids or first aid kits handy can make all the difference. Be sure to pack some first aid supplies in your child's backpack or carry a first aid kit in the car or on your person, just in case. Keeping a few of their favorite cartoon band-aids can not only provide quick relief, but also maybe cheer them up!
Cold & pain relief
Back-to-school means greater exposure to germs and viruses in classrooms, buses, or playgrounds. You can help your child stay healthy by teaching them simple, yet effective habits like frequent hand washing and covering their mouth when they cough or sneeze. And when those inevitable sick days do strike, your FSA can help you get through them: from soothing cough syrups to fever-reducing medicines and reliable thermometers, FSAs cover almost everything you may need to help you get your child back on their feet.
Sunscreen
Though it may seem that the end of the summer is approaching, we'll still have some sunshine and good weather in September. And, if you or your kids are planning to be active outdoors - sports, leagues, or playground time - having sunscreen on hand will keep you protected from harmful UV rays. Get broad spectrum protection, and especially-designed sunscreen for sports to stay sun safe.
Hand Sanitizer
Lockers, keyboards, desks, and door handles are high-touch zones in any school environment. Stay on the defense from COVID-19 with hand sanitizer and hand sanitizing wipes with over 60% alcohol content. You can even have your child keep one in their backpack or in their locker for a quick cleanse between classes.
Hot/Cold Packs
Accidents and unexpected aches are part of the school year—especially for active kids participating in sports or outdoor activities. Having hot/cold packs on hand can make a big difference when bumps or headaches occur. Apply these for either hot or cold therapy to quickly treat pain.
Bundles
One of the easiest ways to prep for back to school is to get one of our handpicked bundles. These curated kits include everything from first aid essentials to sunscreen, allergy relief, and outdoor safety must-haves—perfect for school-aged children and busy parents who want to be prepared.
Steam Inhaler
Colds and sinus pains are inevitable consequences of changes in the environment, temperature and germs spreading in the classroom. If your child is suffering from a cold or sinus pressure headache, a warm steam inhaler can offer much-needed relief.
