Can I pay for my YMCA membership with my FSA?
Unfortunately, YMCA and gym memberships are not eligible for reimbursement through a flexible spending account (FSA), as they are considered by the IRS as a means of supporting one's general health, rather than a direct treatment of a specific medical condition. However, if a YMCA membership is necessary to treat a medical condition such as obesity, some benefits administrators may accept a Letter of Medical Necessity from a doctor to cover this membership. In all other cases, a YMCA membership is not eligible for reimbursement with an FSA.
