A daith piercing is inserted in the same spot as an acupuncture point linked to digestion organs and pain relief, targeting the vagus nerve which is the longest nerve running from the bottom of your brain to the rest of your body. A daith piercing is often sought out by those dealing with the pain of migraines that have had acupuncture, but are looking for a more permanent solution.
The hope is that the daith piercing will apply constant pressure to that point which will in turn reduce relieve pain. Only if the piercing is on the exact spot of the pressure point can results be achieved. It is recommended that an acupuncturist help the person performing the piecing guide the needle into the right pressure point (American Migraine Foundation).
It has also been said that a daith piercing can treat anxiety, but mainly because of past studies done linking acupuncture to anxiety relief (Healthline).

The evidence behind daith piercings preventing or reducing migraine pain is mixed. While multiple scientists give credit to the placebo effect, but studies by the National Center for Biotechnology Information claim the results are inconclusive.
