Dental dams are eligible for reimbursement with flexible spending accounts (FSA), health savings accounts (HSA), and health reimbursement accounts (HRA). Dental dams are not eligible for reimbursement with dependent care flexible spending accounts and limited-purpose flexible spending accounts (LPFSA).

A dental dam is a latex or polyurethane sheet used during oral sex. A dental dam can greatly reduce the risks of contracting a sexually transmitted infection (STI) during oral sex (Healthline).

Types of STIs that can be transmitted during oral sex include syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, hepatitis and HIV.

How is a dental dam used?

A dental dam comes in a package, which when opened reveals a thin sheet. This sheet is to be placed on the area where oral sex is being performed, and then thrown away (Center for Disease Control and Prevention).
