Fenugreek Supplement: FSA Eligibility
What is fenugreek?
Fenugreek is an herb, most commonly found in the form of a supplement for medical purposes but also consumed as a spice used in cooking. It is known for helping testosterone levels, blood sugar, breastfeeding and more (Healthline).
Fenugreek is used in herb tea to help new mothers produce a sufficient amount of breast milk for their children, which in turn helped the babies gain more weight.
Fenugreek is also known to boost testosterone levels in men, as well as blood sugar levels in diabetics. It is believed to be attributed to fenugreek’s role in insulin production. On top of this, it can help with appetite and digestive issues (WebMD).
While more research is needed, there is enough proof of fenugreek helping various ailments that it may be eligible for reimbursement with a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN). In some cases, a benefits administrator may ask you to provide additional documentation of a prescription from a medical professional and there is no guarantee that they will allow it regardless. Always contact your benefits administrator if you’re unsure if an expense such as fenugreek supplement will be allowable.
