In the event of a major medical emergency, seeking out medical attention at an emergency room is sometimes the only option for some individuals who either cannot see their primary care doctor or are experiencing a medical issue that requires immediate medical attention. In some cases, emergency room visits will involve processing, treatment and discharge in short order, but for more advanced conditions that require further treatment or observation, inpatient hospitalization services may be required.

Inpatient hospitalization services refers to the medical treatment, care and consultation that a patient will receive during an inpatient stay at a hospital. This includes hospital services (X-rays, lab tests, etc.), medications that are included in inpatient treatment, bed and board, medical social services furnished by the hospital for the care of inpatients, diagnostic and therapeutic items, as well as any biologicals, supplies, appliances and equipment that are used during a person's inpatient treatment (Verywell Health).
