Medicated Lip Treatments: FSA Eligibility
What is a medicated lip treatment?
Medicated lip treatments are a type of lip treatment that applies a medicine to the lips. Lip treatment is an effective way to apply medicine to the lips when treating certain diseases or conditions of the lips. Common conditions for which medicated lip treatments are typically prescribed include sunburn, acne, eczema, psoriasis, and warts. Common medications that are included in medicated lip treatments include sunblocking agents, antibacterial medication, anthralin, antifungal agents, benzoyl peroxide, coal tar, corticosteroids, and retinoids.
Medicated lip treatments must be prescribed to treat a disease or condition of the lips in order to be eligible for reimbursement with a consumer-directed healthcare plan. Medicated lip treatments must be prescribed to treat a disease or condition of the lips, and not simply for cosmetic purposes, in order to be eligible for reimbursement.
Medicated lip treatments may be brand-name or generic, Over-the-Counter (OTC) or prescription only. A prescription must be acquired, regardless, for reimbursement eligibility. Medicated lip treatments may be one part of a treatment plan for a disease or condition of the lips, or it may be the entirety of the treatment.
