Melatonin: FSA Eligibility
Melatonin: requires a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) to be eligible with a Flexible Spending Account (FSA)What is melatonin?
Melatonin is a hormone in your body associated with sleep. During the day, less melatonin is produced and during the night, more melatonin is produced. It is also available as a supplement commonly used to treat sleep disorders.
What are the risks of taking melatonin?
Melatonin is unlike many sleep medications in that you are unlikely to become dependent on melatonin for sleep, have a lower response because of frequent usage or experience grogginess the next morning.
Because melatonin is considered a dietary supplement, a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) from a licensed healthcare provider is required for reimbursement to show that the expense was for the treatment or mitigation of insomnia or other medical condition.
