Product Pick of the Week: KT Tape PRO Precut Strips

The weather is getting cold. But that doesn't stop athletes and active types from enduring the elements to get outdoors. That's why we recommend KT Tape Pro Precut Strips, which are specifically built to withstand harsh conditions, such as humidity, extreme cold and extended exposure to water.

In other words, the synthetic microfiber tape can be equally beneficial to skaters, hockey players, biathlon participants, or competitors in virtually any other physical activity, indoors or out.

While standard athletic tape has been used for years, FSA-eligible KT Tape Pro is made from a highly flexible, elastic material that not only supports sore joints and muscles, but also lifts the skin to ease pressure on these areas, improving movement while reducing pain.

KT Tape limits your range of motion and constricts muscle movement to promote a speedy recovery. However, due to its ability to adjust and flex around an individual's body, it can give users -- from weekend gardeners to world-class athletes -- more support and agility during physical activity.

Full disclosure: Our staff loves KT Tape products, even for everyday use navigating the streets of New York City. It keeps us pain-free and supported through the harshest conditions, and through including showers, humidity, cold, even dips in the pool.

Each box comes with 20 precut strips of 100% synthetic tape. One hard plastic carrying case with twist on lids to keep your tape in good shape in your gym bag or purse. And the Quick Start Guide with step-by-step instructions will show you how to make the most of KT Tape, on any kind of injury.

That's Eligible?! FSAs and drug-free pain management

Many Americans suffer from some form of chronic pain. While over-the-counter medication can provide relief, many people prefer a drug-free option to help manage their pain long term. As technology advances, more and more options are now available for people to find drug-free pain relief right in their own home.

Many of these treatments are eligible for FSA reimbursement, meaning you can put your tax-free dollars to work.

Hot and cold pack and wraps

Hot and cold therapy is a popular option for many different kinds of aches and pains because of their simplicity and effectiveness. Most of these can simply be heated in the microwave or left in the freezer to cool. These treatments can be used to treat a variety of ailments, from swelling and inflammation to injury relief and rehabilitation.

Athletic support tape

Brands like KT Tape allow for better muscle movement, providing support, and quickening the healing process. It's especially popular with athletes for pain relief, inflammation reduction, muscle relaxation, and injury recovery.

Many people choose to wear KT Tape during sporting events for the added muscle support and pain prevention. It is also used to help increase lymphatic drainage and improve blood flow. Because of its many benefits, KT Tape is popular with people for prevention and pain relief.

TENS units

TENS units work by using stimulating pulses to prevent pain signals from reaching the brain. These units send electrical impulses to the muscles and stimulate your nerves, which works to confuse pain signals received by your brain. They also help stimulate the production of endorphins, which are a natural pain reliever. For people with chronic pain, endorphins help to eliminate the discomfort and can even work as a mood booster.

Acupressure mats

Acupressure mats are a simple and drug-free method of pain relief. All you need to do is make contact with the mat to relieve pain and tension. Most people close to either stand or lie down on them which allows the spikes on the mat to put pressure on your acu-points and relieve pain.

Additionally, acupuncture is an extremely popular form of drug-free pain management. While you can't do it yourself in your own home like the other options on this list, many people find the trip to the specialist to be well worth their while. If using your FSA, make sure to ask your administrator if they'll require any specific type of documentation, such as a Letter of Medical Necessity, to allow the expense.

Supports and braces

Supports and braces are a popular option for people who are experiencing joint pain or to assist with rehabilitation after an injury. Some athletes also use them to prevent injuries while playing sports. Braces come in many shapes and sizes to fit different joints and provide different levels of support.

Share the spirit of Pyeongchang 2018 with KT Tape Pro Team USA edition

The eyes of the world continue to be on Pyeongchang, South Korea, where an elite slate of global athletes are competing for their countries in the latest winter games.

When watching this international competition, you might notice that much of Team USA -- across any number of events -- shares a common look beyond the usual red, white and blue. Those colorful, strategically placed strips of advanced support KT Tape are becoming popular around the globe for their relief and support qualities.

In the spirit of the Pyeongchang 2018 games, Team USA members are sporting a special edition of the 4-inch wide KT Tape design, in three distinct colors, with logos, flag adornments, and a little patriotic flair.

But the patriotic design is only part of why this tape is so appropriate for these winter games. KT Tape Pro Team USA edition is specifically built to withstand harsh conditions, such as humidity, extreme cold and extended exposure to water.

In other words, the synthetic microfiber tape can be equally beneficial to figure skaters, hockey players, biathlon participants, or competitors in virtually any other physical activity, indoors or out.

(Which is good, because there's been some pretty harsh weather in Pyeongchang.)

While standard athletic tape has been used for years, FSA-eligible KT Tape is made from a highly flexible, elastic material that not only supports sore joints and muscles, but also lifts the skin to ease pressure on these areas, improving movement while reducing pain.

KT Tape limits your range of motion and constricts muscle movement to promote a speedy recovery. However, due to its ability to adjust and flex around an individual's body, it can give users -- from weekend gardeners to world-class athletes -- more support and agility during physical activity.

Best of all, there are no unique requirements for getting and using KT Tape -- the same design used by Team USA. It is available over-the-counter, and is 100% FSA-eligible.

6 FSA-eligible stocking stuffers for your health

Holiday shopping probably has you worn out. We get it -- fighting crowds and hunting online to find gifts for others can get a little intense. But what about getting something for yourself? Something you want … something you need … something no one else will think to buy?

This year, give yourself the gift of health with these six last-minute FSA-eligible ideas:

1) Holiday warmth with heat wraps

Take care of your inner weekend warrior by soothing achy muscles with heat wraps for the neck, lower back, arms and legs. Studies show tendons and ligaments have a limited blood supply, so they don't heal as quickly. Heat can help increase blood flow which in turn brings nutrient-rich blood to ligaments, tendons and tight muscles, helping them heal.

2) Merry Kiss-mas!

Soothe chapped lips and protect them from the drying effects of wind and cold during these winter months with FSA-eligible lip balm with SPF. For added protection from the sun our eligible lip protectants come with an SPF of 15 or more, which is especially helpful if you like to spend a lot of time in the great outdoors skiing!

3) Wrap them up with kinesio-tape

Bows and ribbons aren't the only things wrapped this holiday season! Products like KT Tape have been shown to be effective in treatment of strained muscles and tendons. Many physical therapists incorporate the use of kinesio tape in the treatment of tendonitis, muscle strains, and sciatica. This stretchy tape comes in several bright colors, and has countless uses.

4) Start the year off on a good foot

Tight feet and ankle musculature can create stress at your knees and hips when you walk. Using a foot roller can help massage tightened soft tissue in your feet helping them become more flexible.

Foot rollers can also provide some relief to achy tired feet, heel pain and conditions like plantar fasciitis. Rollers are easily portable and can be left under a desk or near a bed.

5) No tears this season – except for fake ones!

Dry eye is a condition that affects many people. Eye experts recommend lubricating drops to help relieve dry, gritty, itchy eyes that occur from this condition. Dry eyes can develop for many reasons, including: medications, certain medical conditions, environmental factors and age.

If your family has had an eye specialist recommend lubricating drops, why not stuff a few in the stocking?

6) Give bugs the "bah humbug" this holiday with bug spray!

If your friends and family like to enjoy long hikes in the woods, bug spray with SPF may be a nice item to stuff their stockings! Certain bug sprays can help repel mosquitos and disease- carrying ticks.

The CDC recommends bathing or showering within two hours after coming indoors to wash off and spot ticks that may be crawling on you. Conduct a full-body tick check using a hand-held or full-length mirror after being in potentially tick infested areas, like trails, tall grass, or any shady, damp area. They also recommend you examine backpacks, clothes and pets since ticks can jump off and attach to a person later.

5 FSA eligible products for a fall hike

Wondering which products to bring along for a fall hike? Discover how you can use an FSA to buy 5 FSA eligible products for your fall hike.

Is there any season better suited for a hike through nature quite like autumn? Comfortable temperatures, the gorgeous seasonal palette of changing foliage and sparse crowds make it feel like you have the beauty of the backcountry all to yourself.

Of course, hiking comes with its own share of risks, and the safety of you and your loved ones will be best assured with advanced preparation and caution. If you have a flexible spending account (FSA), you'd be amazed at how many items you can purchase with your tax-free funds that will come in handy on the trail and help you respond quickly in an emergency.

Sunscreen (with insect repellent!)

The sun is still strong during the autumn months, and all that time spent in the outdoors will expose your skin to UV rays, so even if you'll be in shady areas, it's best to apply before you hit the trail. You can also kill two birds with one stone by using sunscreen with an insect repellent. Early autumn is still a peak time for mosquitoes - researchers at Iowa State University have found that the majority of mosquitoes that thrive in the cool fall weather are more likely to transmit disease like West Nile virus, so it's best to be prepared!

A first aid kit is a must-have for any hiking or camping trip that can allow you to respond quickly if you or a loved one experiences a major injury. Alongside basic supplies like bandages, adhesive tape, scissors and splints, first aid kits should include antibiotic dressings, antiseptics and OTC pain relief medications that can help you tackle issues large and small. Make sure yours is well-stocked!

How to go about "cryostretching"

Whether you're easing into a new fitness program or looking to bounce back quicker, get your FSA-eligible cold pack ready for a bit of cryostretching.

How to use FSA-eligible cold packs for "cryostretching"

Any physical trainer will tell you that stretching before and after your workout is essential to avoid lingering soreness and exposing yourself to a potentially serious injury. But have you ever gone the extra mile to try "cryostretching?"

Cryostretching has become increasingly popular among physical trainers and amateur athletes alike, and it can be done using a standard cold pack that many of us already have in our homes. This technique has the ability to reduce muscle spasms and increase flexibility, resulting in a far more beneficial stretch overall. Whether you're easing into a new fitness program or looking to bounce back quicker from your regimen, get your FSA eligible cold pack ready for a bit of cryostretching! Here's how to get started:

Pre- and Post-Workout Cryostretching

Cryostretching involves a period of cold therapy, stretching and a relaxation period to prep the body for physical activity or help it recover. Ideally, this technique can be utilized on joints and specific muscles that may have given you trouble in the past, or those which you are planning to target in your fitness regimen.

First, a cold pack is placed on a specific area for about 20 minutes, during which the body part should become nearly numb. Next, perform two sets of stretches for 60 seconds each with a 20-second rest period in between. Do not alter your stretching method and aim to slowly increase the distance of the stretch with each repetition.

How does cryostretching make a difference?

Cryostretching before and after each workout can produce a more effective stretch and lessens the possibility of debilitating injuries. On a physiological level, cryostretching will numb an area of the body and prevent muscle spasms during stretching, which in turn reduces pain and enable a more efficient stretch.

When stretching post-workout, muscles are left in a shortened state after constant contraction, so they will be left tight and sore if they are not returned to their natural position after a workout. Cryostretching can boost this post-workout stretch and reduce the lingering pain that is present after significant physical activity.

If you find yourself struggling with nagging injuries or simply can't bounce back from a tough workout as soon as you'd like, give cryostretching a try! Best of all, if you have a flexible spending account (FSA), you can purchase the perfect cold pack for the job at! We have the web's largest selection of FSA eligible products to maximize your employee benefits and your overall health.
